The Importance of the Diamond Cut

The cut of a stone is often thought of as the shape of a stone. Diamonds come in a variety of shapes including Round, Princess, Oval, Pear, Marquise, Asscher, Radiant, Emerald, and Heart.

Cut quantifies the proportions on the surface of a diamond using mathematical formulas to determine the shape with the maximum light return. A stone is cut into facets allowing the light to bounce around the stone and reflect light back out. The precision of these facets determines the beauty of the stone.

This quest for perfection means a stone is cut to maximize brilliance, dispersion and scintillation, not for the carat weight of the stone. When stones are cut to maintain weight the result is a stone whose proportions are off resulting in less light moving around in the stone. Cut ultimately reflects the sparkle of the stone.

There is no single quality of a stone that affects the sparkle as much as the cut. We carry ideal cut stones for this reason: so that when she looks at her diamond, it sparkles with a reflection of love.
